Why are tensile strength and yield strength not the same requirement?

Yield strength describes the stress where permanent deformation begins, while ultimate tensile strength describes the maximum stress before failure. They answer different design questions and should not be merged.

When are hardness values comparable?

Hardness values are comparable only when the scale and method are compatible, such as HRC, HRB, HV, or HB. Conversions across hardness scales can be approximate and should be flagged when material type or method is not clear.

What material context should be preserved?

Preserve alloy grade, temper, heat treatment, product form, test direction, temperature, standard, thickness range, and whether values are minimums, typicals, allowables, or examples.
